Cindy Custodio and Cynthia Florek first met as students in the Fashion Design program at George Brown College in 1997. Having lived in Chile and Florida prior to graduation, Florek interned with designer Crystal Siemens and had her first solo fashion show at 17. In addition to traveling overseas to Hong Kong, China and Australia, Custodio worked as a menswear seamstress and honed her design expertise at top Canadian label Comrags. In 2000, the pair united as the design team behind a private label company where they created domestic and overseas designs for labels such as Urban Behavior, Costa Blanca, Big Star, and Mendocino.
Perhaps it has something to do with the designer’s similar fiery personalities – Custodio is of Filipino/Spanish roots and Florek descends from Mexican/Polish heritage – but their comparable taste in design and their chemistry as friends and work partners prompted them to establish CINCYN in 2002. In addition to the line’s own success, this popular and world traveled duo was hired as consultants to overview the initial launch of NBA 4 Her Canada. Nelly Furtado at the 2004 All Star Basketball Game in Los Angeles wore their designs. CINCYN has garnered quite a media buzz in the two years since the label first launched in Toronto. Their work is featured in the premiere edition of Toronto Shops, October’s Highrise Magazine, and Lucky Magazine. In addition, look for their fashions in 2005’s Lie With Me, a film directed by Clement Virgo. The duo has set their sight on expanding across Canada and into the United States.
For CINCYN
Spring-summer collection of 2005 Cindy Custodio and Cynthia Florek were inspired by the rare, exotic shades and texture of Abalone Pearls, CINCYN’s latest presentation is filled with refined pieces that flirt with sex appeal. Spring is captured in decadent, fluid hemmed jersey dresses, unconventionally tailored linen jackets, wrapped sarong pants, and delicate silk chiffon cocktail length dresses. Colors emulate refreshing sea mist blues, pearl whites, and sandy taupes, reminiscent of an exotic escape. Clustered iridescent embellishments radiate a sophisticated and polished look that translates into opulent glamour.
When a woman wears CINCYN, drama is an understatement and her effect is a presence to be reckoned with. She will stand out in a crowd knowing she looks and feels great, expressing her sense of style and femininity through a meticulous choice of fit, colour and detail. CINCYN is a label that is not only known for its detail-oriented ready-to-wear, but for high-end, handcrafted leather bags, which are offered as one-of-a kind.
